Academy Curriculum

Curriculum

The curriculum at The Bulwell Academy is innovative, exciting and challenging. We believe that the curriculum should enable youngsters to develop the skills they need to be successful in life. Students have more lessons per day than in traditional secondary schools which gives us the opportunity to provide a broader curriculum.

All students spend the first hour of each day in one of five houses in tutor groups along with students from all the other year groups. During this time the students spend time developing their literacy and numeracy skills along with enterprise skills such as communication, leadership, teamwork, risk taking and confidence. We believe that these are the skills that all students require to be successful in other subject areas and aspects of life.

The academy operates a fast track, two year key stage 3 curriculum with a strong emphasis on basic skills for all students that allows for a more comprehensive and flexible approach to programmes in key stage 4 and post 16. We are aiming for the highest standards possible in all the courses we offer whether they are traditional GCSE or vocational pathways. All students will experience a vocational option at key stage 4.
